iManage Cloud

Frequently Asked Questions

In evaluating cloud document management systems for your law firm's long-term knowledge platform, it's critical to move beyond the gloss of product marketing and sales rhetoric. Despite appearances, leading cloud solutions often differ significantly in technology and performance. Thorough technical due diligence is essential to identify these differentiators, which can have profound implications for your choice of a system to support your firm's operations over the next decade and beyond.

iManage Cloud has been built natively on the Microsoft Azure platform using a containerised, scalable, and resilient microservices architecture, as well as 'zero touch' and 'zero trust' security principles. This means that iManage Cloud fully and seamlessly utilises the power and resilience of Azure and Azure Availability Zones.

Why does this matter?

The DMS is a mission-critical platform for law firms. Performance and security are crucial. Any down-time means loss of production and revenue, and security incidents can lead to significant reputational and operational damage.

Below are some frequently asked questions about iManage Cloud.

What are the major advantages of using a specialised solution like iManage Cloud over general solutions like file servers, Sharepoint and One Drive?

iManage Cloud is at its core designed to support the way lawyers and other employees in law firms and corporate legal departments work. The solution offers seamless integration with Office including Outlook and Teams and supports effective collaboration both internally and externally with external stakeholders. Advanced but easy-to-use search capabilities allow users to easily find relevant documents and emails across clients and cases, and the solution is highly scalable and works equally well whether the organisation has five or five hundred users.

Is my data secure in iManage Cloud?

iManage Cloud is a true cloud service built to meet the high demands of highly regulated industries, based on modern security principles such as 'zero touch' and 'zero trust'. Read more here.

We have several million documents and emails in our system and many terabytes of data in total. Can a cloud service handle this with good performance?

We have helped some of the Nordic region's largest law firms go to iManage Cloud and in such projects migrated >15 million documents and emails and a total of ~10 TB of data with very good results. Today, iManage Cloud is used by many of the world's largest law firms with many thousands of users in one and the same solution.

Our existing document management system has several integrations with our other systems. How can I manage this in the cloud?

iManage's 'Universal API' is a modern and flexible REST API that enables integration with all kinds of systems and data services. PSA also offers Custodian - our own cloud-based integration service that has numerous standard connectors between iManage and other systems common to Nordic law firms and service providers. If you currently have iManage but not in the cloud and have integrations that use other integration technologies than Universal API, these will regardless need to be adjusted in 2023, as iManage de-supports integrations that do not use Universal API.

Can a solution like iManage Cloud be as tightly integrated with Microsoft Office (including Outlook and Teams) as Microsoft's own document management solutions?

Yes. iManage is one of a handful of global Microsoft partners that have qualified for Microsoft's CSPP Plus programme. This means, among other things, that iManage gets early access to future versions of the Office applications and that iManage can be used as prioritised storage in Teams and other Office applications in the same way as OneDrive and Sharepoint. Furthermore, iManage offers seamless management of both documents and e-mail on a completely different level than Microsoft's own solutions.

How can iManage Cloud help me with compliance, such as GDPR/data protection?

iManage can help structure, classify, and manage documents and emails to comply with retention policies and legislation. For an even higher level of control and structure, the iManage Records Manager add-on is available.
